Clean Today. Cleaner Tomorrow.®

Clean Today. Cleaner Tomorrow.®

At Idaho Power, our commitment to safely serving customers and communities with reliable, affordable energy has been the hallmark of our 100-year history. As we continue the next century of service, we are building on that foundation with an exciting mission:

100% clean energy by 2045

This goal is as meaningful to us as it is important to many of our customers, the communities we serve and the places we call home. Learn how we’re moving forward — today, tomorrow, and together.

Today.

Energy Mix Comparison

donut chart showing 2022 Idaho Power energy mix: 31.1% hydro, 10% wind, 3.8% solar, 2.3% geothermal/biomass/other, 19.9% coal, 12.6% natural gas, and 20.3% market purchases

This energy mix shows the energy we generate from company-owned resources and energy we buy through long-term contracts with wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and small-scale hydro generators. The overall mix does not represent the energy delivered to customers for two reasons. First, we participate in the wholesale energy market and sell energy both to other utilities and to retail customers. Second, some of our purchased power from renewable sources comes with a Renewable Energy Credit, or REC, which we sell to keep customer prices low.

We exited one coal-fired generator in 2019 and another in 2020. Two units were converted from coal to natural gas in 2024. We continue to strategically move away from our remaining coal-fired generation.

How will we achieve this goal?

We’re investing today to ensure a realistic path forward for tomorrow. Idaho Power’s strong hydroelectric backbone and investments in transmission, solar, wind, and other clean sources have put us well on our way. Achieving our goal will require technological advances and a continued focus on energy efficiency and demand-response programs. Natural gas is necessary for the near future, but we’re looking for ways to reduce or offset this need. We will never sacrifice reliability or affordability as we pursue this goal.
